The Do’s and Dont’s of Renal Failure.
So as you should know from the name and the background of this blog, I personally suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease and there is not much education about this whereas Renal failure causes nearly just as much, if not more deaths than cardiac disease.
So in this article, I will talk about the precautions and the Do’s and Dont’s when it comes to chronic kidney disease.
The first thing I would like to address is the amount of water one should have. Yes, you may have heard it many times that people will tell you to keep hydrated and drink lots of water. I am here to tell you that you need to drink your daily limit. An excessive amount of water causes load against your kidneys and that could be fatal. Drink around 8 liters a day, if not only when you are thirsty.
The next thing is to keep away from fizzy Cola and Energy drinks! With the amount of sugar in fizzy drinks and energy drinks, this could be poisonous for your kidneys and by all means, you should keep away from it!
Majority of people that suffer from kidney disease, end up being hypertensive, which means high blood pressure. You need to avoid foods with lots of salt, which includes crisps and fatty foods.
REMEMBER – The only time a meal tastes nice is because it has lots of fat and salt, those are the main ingredients to enhance taste in foods and can prove to be addictive.
As far as possible refrain from drinking coffee or if you do stick to decaf! Caffeine is a stimulant and may increase your blood pressure which will cause faster deterioration of your kidneys.
Make sure you have adequate exercise daily (Not strenuous!) but simple walking or swimming may prove healthy. Avoid lot’s of impact sports as this may cause strain on your back which may lead to spasms and it can be very uncomfortable.
